Offshore wind association PTMEW calls on government to focus on foundation fabrication.
Polish offshore wind association PTMEW has called on Warsaw to to keep troubled Szczecin-based fabricator ST3 Offshore in the offshore wind business.
The association issued a statement in response to reports that the Polish government is to step in to rescue the yard and run it as a shipbuilding outfit.
ST3 applied for bankruptcy last month after failing to tie down new offshore wind contracts and an unsuccessful search for a new backer.
PTMEW said offshore wind is the best bet for the yard given it is one of the “most modern” in Europe and the “stable development prospects” of the market.
The association laid out up to six demands, including the implantation of an effective ownership structure with participation of an overseas investor.
PTMEW is also calling for a recovery plan, a “proactive plant management model” towards the international and domestic markets and a “revision” of production capabilities, including optimisation of jacket fabrication, a new line for monopile foundations and a focus on floating offshore wind structures.
