“We are finalizing the delivery of key raw materials that will enable the launch of the new plant of Grupa Azoty Polimerów Police – one of the largest investments in the European chemical industry. The first delivery of ethylene, after the propane delivery in December, confirms the commencement of the start-up process of another key part of the polypropylene production unit and the propane dehydrogenation unit,” said Tomasz Hinc, President of Grupa Azoty, quoted in the material.
The goal of the Polimery Police project, with a total budget of approximately USD 1.8 billion, is the construction of an integrated chemical complex, which includes a propylene production unit by propane dehydrogenation and a polypropylene production unit with a production capacity of up to 437,000 m3. tons per year. Both key installations have been designed with the use of state-of-the-art technologies, enabling high production flexibility and the ability to supply a wide range of polypropylene types. The scope of the project also includes the construction of a gas terminal with a reloading and storage terminal, ensuring the possibility of obtaining raw materials necessary for production by sea, and a number of auxiliary installations.
The Polimery Police project is one of the largest investments in the Polish and European chemical industry, which will enable the diversification of Grupa Azoty’s business activities, and will also have a positive impact on Poland’s position in the plastics segment and will strengthen the country’s energy and raw material independence.
Grupa Azoty ranks second in the EU in the production of nitrogen and compound fertilizers, and products such as melamine, caprolactam, polyamide, OXO alcohols and titanium white also have a strong position in the chemical sector, being used in many industries. Its consolidated sales revenues reached PLN 15.9 billion in 2021.
