LOT Airlines burns through 3.6 billion pln state aid, asks for more

The public aid that LOT has received so far will not be sufficient, informed Rafał Milczarski, the company’s president. As he added, he expects that further state funding will be necessary.

The state-owned carrier signed a loan agreement with the Polish Development Fund as part of the government’s Support Program for Polish Airlines at the end of last year. PFR disbursed PLL PLT in two tranches of PLN 1.8 billion. The repayment is scheduled to start on December 30, 2023. However, the amount will not be sufficient.

“These are public funds, the Polish taxpayer, and here a great responsibility should be demonstrated. That is why we did everything to take this help as little as possible. It turns out that it will not be enough. I think that by the end of the year it will be seen to what extent the second tranche of aid will be needed” – said Milczarski and added that LOT is doing everything to ensure that the company requires as little assistance as possible. – “We expect that the next tranche of aid will be needed. But we will inform about the details then, when they are agreed, today it would be inappropriate” – he said.
