PKP Intercity has a contract with FPS H. Cegielski for the modernization of 90 carriages for about PLN 495 million

PKP Intercity has signed a contract with Fabryka Pojazdów Szynowych H. Cegielski (FPS H. Cegielski) for the modernization of 90 wagons, the Ministry of Infrastructure announced. The contract value is approximately PLN 495 million. The first modernized wagons will appear on Polish tracks in 2023.

The contract with FPS H. Cegielski covers the periodic repair on the fifth maintenance level, along with the modernization of 90 wagons of types 111A and 141A and their subsequent inspections on the third maintenance level. The modernized wagons are to be delivered to the carrier within 30 months of signing the contract, and the first vehicle 350 days after being handed over to the rolling stock manufacturer, said.

“The events of recent weeks show how much we need a strong and reliable Polish railroad. It is an extremely important element of an efficient transport system. That is why we place a greater emphasis on the modernization program of the Polish railways. The contract signed today, thanks to which the PKP Intercity fleet will be strengthened by another 90 modern carriages, is a big step in strengthening the position of our national carrier. It is also another step towards our goal, which is a safe, comfortable, predictable, accessible and ecological railway, ”said Andrzej Bittel, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, quoted in the press release.

The contract signed with FPS H. Cegielski is an element of the extended investment strategy "PKP Intercity - Kolej Duży Inwestycji". As part of it, the company will allocate PLN 27 billion to modern rolling stock and environmentally friendly parking stations by 2030. As a result, the carrier plans to run approximately twice as many trains in 2030 and offer passengers a high standard of travel. Travel at a speed of 160-250 km / h will become the norm, which will shorten travel times.

PKP Intercity is the largest long-distance railway carrier in Poland. In 2021, it had approx. 35.5 million passengers, which meant an increase by nearly 9 million y / y.
