PKN Orlen: 30 billion pln to be invested in modern biorefineries

Built by Orlen Południe – a subsidiary of PKN Orlen – a propylene glycol installation with a production capacity of 30,000 tonnes per year, will start in November 2021, PKN Orlen said. In addition, as part of this investment, the first in Poland hydrogen hub will be commissioned later this year, offering high-purity hydrogen to power fuel cells with a production capacity of over 350 tons of pure hydrogen per year.

At the end of 2021, Orlen Południe will produce 30,000 tonnes of ecological glycol per year. That’s about 10,000 more than the only installation of this type in Europe, which is located in Belgium, emphasized Orlen.

“The finalization of the plant for the production of ecological glycol means expansion of the production plant and new jobs. The transformation of Orlen Południe into a modern biorefinery is an important element of the Orlen Group’s strategy, in which we assume investment outlays of PLN 30 billion for sustainable growth ” – said the president of PKN Orlen, Daniel Obajtek.

The construction of the glycol production installation began in Trzebinia in autumn 2019 and is carried out according to the schedule. After obtaining the use permit and the integrated permit at the beginning of September, the technological start-up of the installation began.
