PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa submitted an application for a decision regarding the construction of nuclear power plants

PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa has submitted an application to the Ministry of Climate and Environment for a decision of principle for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Konin-Pątnów, the company announced.

“As PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa, a joint company of PGE and ZE PAK, we submitted today to the Ministry of Climate and Environment an application for a decision of principle for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Konin-Pątnów. 10 months ago in Seoul, we signed a letter of intent between PGE, ZE PAK and the Korean KHNP. During this time, as partners, e.g. we prepared a preliminary report for the location, we set up a functioning special purpose vehicle, obtaining the necessary consent of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection. Last Friday, PGE and ZE PAK signed a shareholders’ agreement, and today, based on it, we are happy as a whole team that we can start an important stage in terms of the process of obtaining the necessary administrative approvals for our investment. We believe that in 2035 our nuclear power plant will start operating, which will cover 12% of Poland’s current energy demand,” said Jakub Rybicki, President of PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa.

The company emphasizes that obtaining the basic decision is crucial for starting further work related to the location, environmental studies and finally applying for a permit to build a nuclear power plant. It will confirm the possibility of starting work in the indicated location, the purpose of which will be the construction of a nuclear power plant with the indicated parameters.

The application contains the key elements of the planned power plant, such as its location in the Konin region, the planned total installed capacity – two reactors with a total capacity of 2800 MW, technology – Korean APR1400 reactor technology, the planned ownership structure and a description of the planned method of financing the investment.

Two reactors in the planned power plant could provide Polish homes and businesses with about 22 TWh of energy, i.e. about 12% of today’s energy consumption in Poland. Commissioning of the first block of the power plant is possible in 2035, it was also reminded.

PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa is a company established in April this year. by the Polish Energy Group (PGE) and ZE PAK. The aim and task of the company is to participate in the planned construction of a nuclear power plant in Konin/Pątnów in Wielkopolska.
