Orlen Group’s Unipetrol is building a heat recovery plant in Kralupy for about PLN 100 million.

Unipetrol from the Orlen Group is connected to heat recovery at the production plant in Kralupy nad Vltavou, receiving Orlen. The project, worth approximately 0.5 billion Czech crowns (approx. PLN 100 million), is an effort to make the Orlen Group carbon neutral by 2050.

The investment turns on the refinery’s electricity – the heat emitted by exhaust gases, which until now is turned on by switches, is turned on by heating devices on the main board. 5 MW of heat energy per hour connected to the network. Available technical solutions are in use by engineers from Orlen Unipetrol, listed.

“Orlen, as a leader in the use in Europe, an action that affects your impact on the natural environment. The construction of heat recovery units at the refinery in Kralupy, Czech Republic will contribute to energy production, which not only ensures an ecological effect, but also reduces the costs of its use. As part of the investment, a unique technology of polymer heat exchangers was used, which is an original solution of Orlen Unipetrol. Research and development in green technologies will have an impact on the company’s development in the years to come, being used to achieve the groups’ strategic goals and aspirations,” said Orlen’s president, Daniel Obajtek, quoted in the application.

The investment in the refinery in Kralupy involves the construction of heating devices from exhaust emissions generated, among others, while the distillation process is unavailable. Orlen Unipetrol used an electrical device to power the boiler, from which steam is produced for the catalytic cracking devices at the refinery in Kralupy.

“Improving electricity is one of Orlen Unipetrol’s strategic goals and a step towards carbon neutrality by the Orlen group in 2050. By 2030, we plan to participate in projects limiting CO2 emissions and specific energy consumption of approximately CZK 30 billion (approx. PLN 5.3) PLN billion). “The investment in an electrical installation using exhaust gases is one of the main initiatives of the company” – Maciej Romanów, member of the management board of the Orlen Unipetrol Group.
