The total amount of investment by Japan Tobacco International (JTI) in the company’s Polish factories amounts to nearly USD 1.3 billion as a result of the latest investment in a factory of innovative tobacco products, worth approximately USD 200 million, said Yan Sobolevskyy, the operational director of the JTI Polska factory.
“Starting the production of tobacco inserts for Ploom X for the Polish market, as well as for other European countries, contributes to the development of the JTI factory in Poland. This year alone, we increased employment by over 100 people, and the value of investments in the factory of innovative tobacco products exceeded USD 200 million. This is the only such JTI factory outside Japan and we expect further significant investments in the production of innovative products and in the entire production center in Stary Gostków,” Sobolevskyy said at a meeting with journalists.
The market for heated tobacco products in Poland is developing very dynamically and currently constitutes over 10% of the entire tobacco products market, and in Warsaw it is already over 25%. Its value is estimated at PLN 4.8 billion. The factory of innovative tobacco products in Stare Gostków near Łódź is increasing the production of tobacco sticks for Ploom X devices to meet the growing demand for these products in Poland and around the world, company representatives said.
“JTI Polska is the second largest tobacco company in the country and I am convinced that thanks to expansion in the rapidly growing category of innovative tobacco products, our position in Poland will be even stronger. Therefore, this is the perfect time to enter the Polish market with the innovative Japanese Ploom X tobacco heating technology,” added Edoardo Voletti, president of JTI Polska.
The Japan Tobacco Group plans to invest 300 billion yen in the global expansion of heated tobacco products between 2023 and 2025. JTI has been present in Poland since 2007 and since then it has invested nearly USD 1.3 billion in our country. Currently, the company has 4 modern plants where it produces almost all categories of tobacco products. In 2019, the company also opened a Global Business Services Center in Warsaw. The total employment of the JTI group in Poland is over 3.4 thousand. people.
