In mid-2022, the Crist Shipyard in Gdynia will hand over a modern, two-sided, ecological hybrid ferry to the Finnish shipowner Finferries. It will fit 90 passenger cars and almost 380 passengers.
As informed by Emilia Kulczycka from the Crist Shipyard, the launch of the ship took place last week.
“The outfitting works will begin soon on the vessel, and at a later stage, the vessel will be prepared for the tethered and sea trials. The handover of the vessel to the shipowner is scheduled for the first half of next year, ”said the representative of the Gdynia shipyard.
The hybrid ferry for Finferries will be powered by shore-charged batteries. Combustion power generators will be used as a backup power source for the unit, used in bad weather conditions or large accumulation of ice on the route.
The new unit will be 100.5 m long and 17.4 m wide.
