Gov’t to boost medium-sized cities

A government programme wants to turn Poland’s medium-sized cities into modern business service centres.

Under the programme, the Polish investment and development ministry is to survey the labour pool, available commercial real estate, and labour costs of 35 medium-sized cities.

The cities were selected for their tertiary trade schools, as qualified staff are key for businesses, said Paweł Panczyj, chief development officer of the Association of Business Service Leaders which will be conducting the survey on behalf of the investment ministry.

Panczyj said that businesses are already turning to smaller cities for their service needs.

Meanwhile, according to the Polish Academy of Sciences, half of Poland’s 255 medium-sized are losing their social and economic importance. (vb)
