The international jury assessed the business potential of startups, the team and the innovativeness of the presented solutions. Among the jurors were Angel investor Sarah Drinkwater, Nico Schoenenberger of 10x Founders, Andreea Constantinescu of Planet First Partners and Valeri Petrov of Eleven Ventures.
The total prize pool in the competition was EUR 30,000 in cash. The awards were funded by the Mayor of the City of Gdańsk.
What problem does the winning startup solve?
The Polish startup Genotic uses artificial intelligence to design, test and produce antibodies that are a universal tool used in research and development. In addition, it has the potential to be used in the diagnosis of infectious diseases such as: Anthrax, Plague or COVID-19.
The revolutionary nature of their solution lies in the modern method of predicting protein structures based on sequences. The use of only cell cultures in the production of proteins allows you to streamline the entire process and achieve a high level of consistency of protein batches while reducing both time, costs and eliminating the use of animals. The end product is antibodies targeting a specific antigen.
Also on the podium are startups from Estonia and Great Britain
The second place in the competition was taken by upLYFT – a startup based in London, which was created out of passion for fitness and amateur sports. The product of the awarded company, however, fulfills a much more serious function. upLYFT has produced smart medical underwear to fight musculoskeletal diseases.
Third place went to Beholder, an Estonian startup that focuses on using advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and computer image processing to solve problems with environmental monitoring. It is an AI-powered SaaS platform for mineral resource discovery.
