Gaz-System and PSE have an agreement on cooperation in investments

Gaz-System and Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) have agreed on the rules of cooperation in the investments carried out by PSE, Gaz-System reported.

“The national operators of natural gas and electricity transmission systems – Gaz-System and PSE – have signed an agreement which defines the procedure to be followed in the event of crossings and proximity of the newly built transmission infrastructure of PSE with Gaz-System’s gas pipelines. The rules of cooperation agreed between the operators will allow PSE to implement investments much more efficiently.

The agreement defines the responsibilities of both companies when, for example, a PSE power line is planned in the vicinity of an existing gas pipeline. So far, such arrangements have been carried out separately for each investment, without uniform rules. Therefore, the signed agreement defines the actions necessary to be performed at each stage of the construction process. The method of agreeing investments was also unified and standards were introduced in the process of securing gas pipelines against the impact of PSE’s power lines. Thanks to this, the cooperation of both companies will be more efficient and according to clearly defined rules and requirements.

“This agreement makes it possible to solve the issue of proximity or intersection of power lines with gas pipelines already at the design stage, which speeds up the investment process, especially on the part of PSE,” said Andrzej Kolasa, director of the Gaz-System operation department, quoted in the release.

“Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne is implementing the largest investment program in its history. In the next few years, there will be over 5,000 km of 400 kV lines and 27 stations. Such a scale of investments requires good coordination of works with the owners of other infrastructure, including the gas pipeline. The signed agreement will facilitate the arrangements and, as a result, will improve the construction and operation of the transmission infrastructure necessary for the energy transformation,” added Łukasz Strambowski, Deputy Director for Operations at the Central Investment Unit of PSE.

Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) is the operator of the electricity transmission system in Poland. They own over 14,000 km of lines and over 100 high-voltage power stations.

Gas Transmission Operator Gaz-System is a strategic company for the Polish economy, responsible for the transmission of natural gas and the management of the most important gas pipelines in Poland.
