DHL orders electric planes. The first flight is planned this year

DHL Express was the first in the world to order 12 fully electric Eviation Alice cargo planes. They are to supply the company’s fleet by 2024.

The Eviation Alice is a small electric plane offered both as a 9-seater passenger version and as a freighter for cargo transportation. Its prototype was presented by the Israeli manufacturer at the Paris Air Show in 2019.

The plane can carry 1,200 kg of cargo, and its range is up to 815 km. DHL Express counts that charging the battery for an hour’s flight will take a maximum of 30 minutes and can take place during loading and unloading. In addition, it is adapted to be operated by even one remote control. The first flight of Eviation Alice in the colors of DHL Express is planned for 2021.

“We take the issues related to minimizing the impact of our activities on the natural environment very seriously, therefore the electrification of each type of transport plays a key role for us. To achieve this, by 2030, within the DP DHL group, we plan to invest EUR 7 billion in projects related to green logistics, and 60 percent of our fleet are to be electric vehicles. The order of twelve world-class innovative electric planes makes DHL Express not only a leader in ecological logistics solutions, but also shows the direction in which the entire industry will develop” – says Edwin Osiecki, vice president for marketing and sales at DHL Express Polska, quoted in the announcement.
