Budimex’s contract with Orlen Neptun II for work on the construction of an installation terminal for offshore wind farms in Świnoujście is worth over PLN 118 million, Budimex announced. Earlier this week, the Orlen Group announced that it had selected Budimex as the contractor for the land part of the terminal.
“The task of the WTIV terminal (wind turbine installation vessel) being built in Świnoujście will be the reloading, storage and assembly of wind tower sections together with foundations and other wind turbine elements. The investment will enable, among others: construction of the first Baltic Power offshore wind farm with an installed capacity of 1,140 MW located in the waters of the Polish exclusive economic zone. As the investor declares, due to the limited availability of this type of equipment in the Baltic Sea, the Polish terminal will service investments carried out in German, Swedish and Danish waters,” we read in the release.
Budimex will implement the land part of the investment. It will include, among others: storage surfaces for offshore wind turbine components such as towers, blades and nacelles. Communication infrastructure will also be built on a total area of approximately 17 ha, as well as a new administration and office building, it was mentioned.
“The implementation of the contract will involve, among others: with earthworks, such as land leveling, aggregate transport and spreading. We will also perform all work related to the construction of administrative and office rooms, warehouses and parking lots from scratch. The works will take 17 months,” added Jakub Długoszek, director of Budimex Infrastructure Construction, quoted in the material.
Earlier, Orlen announced that construction works would start in October and be completed at the turn of 2024 and 2025. Ultimately, the terminal will enable the installation of over 80 offshore wind turbines per year and will be able to handle the Baltic Power project and other planned wind investments.
Budimex has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since 1995. Its strategic investor is the Spanish company Ferrovial. In 2022, it had PLN 8.62 billion of consolidated revenues.
