ArcelorMittal Poland invests 105 million pln in Kraków steel mill

ArcelorMittal Poland will invest a total of PLN 105 million in three projects at the Kraków cold rolling mill this year, the company said.
As part of the program, the company implements three projects: replacement of the rolling mill motors, modernization of the sheet etching line and the purchase of a new grinding machine. The end of the program is scheduled for the end of this year, the press release said.

“This is another investment package that we are implementing in our Krakow steel plant. At the end of last year, we informed about environmental projects in the coking plant, the value of which exceeded PLN 30 million. This is the best proof that ArcelorMittal Poland has an appetite for investments in the Krakow branch and that we want our Krakow rolling mills to work in a sustainable manner and to be ready to meet the growing needs of our customers “- said the president of ArcelorMittal Poland, Sanjay Samaddar.

The first project has already been completed, and consisted in replacing three DC motors in one of the rolling stands of the rolling mill with one AC motor.

“The higher engine power allowed the rolling mill to accelerate and thus increased the line efficiency. It is also worth paying attention to the environmental aspect of this investment – despite the increase in the production capacity of the rolling mill, the use of electricity will not increase, ”said Wojciech Koszuta, the managing director of the flat products division at ArcelorMittal Poland.

The modernization of the sheet etching line is planned for the fourth quarter of this year. Thanks to automation, the processes performed before the material enters the line will be shortened. Full automation of the process is also waiting for the exit section of the line: a new coiler, an automatic coil tying machine and new coil transport trolleys will be installed. Also, cutting of sheet metal for testing purposes will be automatic. On the other hand, a new, fully automatic grinder, working with high precision, will appear in the roller grinding plant.
