PGE Renewables establishes cooperation with Wrocław University of Technology

ZEW Dychów branch of PGE Energia Odnawialna – a subsidiary of Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) – has established cooperation with the Wrocław University of Technology.

“I am convinced that thanks to the cooperation with the Faculty of Mechanical and Power Engineering of the Wrocław University of Technology, we will be able to introduce innovative solutions in our pumped storage power plant, influencing the efficiency of production and optimization of technological processes, ”said Sławomir Szostak, director of PGE Energia Odnawialna ZEW Dychów Branch.

For universities, signing an agreement with PGE Energia Odnawialna means the possibility of conducting development research and launching internships for students, and ultimately will allow the curriculum to be adapted to the needs of the labor market.

“The Faculty of Mechanical and Power Engineering is a place where daily research related to the most current challenges facing both conventional and renewable energy is carried out. Obviously, these studies cannot take place without the active participation of partners from the energy sector. That is why cooperation with PGE Energia Odnawialna is so important to us “- commented prof. Piotr Szulc from the Wrocław University of Technology.

The power plant in Dychów is the oldest pumped storage power plant in Poland. Built before World War II, it works in the Dychowski hydrotechnical system. It is fed by a 20.4 km long derivative channel leading the Bóbr River dammed up on the weir in Krzywaniec to the upper reservoir of the power plant.

The PGE Group generates 41% of net electricity production in Poland, and its share in the heat market is 18%. The Group estimates its share in the market of energy from renewable sources at 10%. In the distribution area of ​​approx. 123 thousand. km2 PGE serves 5.5 million customers. Its market share in terms of the volume of distributed electricity is 25% and sales to end users – 33%. The company has been listed on the WSE since 2009.
