Polish bus manufacturing giants Solaris to debut Urbino 12 hydrogen bus in Sweden

Solaris announces the world premiere of its brand new fuel cell bus, the Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen, at the UITP Global Public Transport Summit in Stockholm this June. Solaris will also present a new look for the Urbino 12 electric at the show in Sweden.

Solaris has not yet provided any technical data on the new H2 bus, but have said that the fuel cell vehicle will carry hydrogen tanks on its roof and will also be equipped with its own “High Power Battery” as additional energy storage for 29.2 kWh. All other information will only be available at the trade fair.

Also in Stockholm, Solaris will unveil a facelifted version of the Urbino 12 electric. The model has been on the market since 2014 and was awarded the title “Bus of The Year” in 2017. According to the Polish manufacturer, the upgraded look has an “evolutionary character and optimises the current solutions”. Changes include the front design and headlights, the roof cladding and the destination display on the front for passengers. The changes are apparently in response to constant transformations in the bus industry and customer expectations.

Solaris presented its first electric bus in 2011. Since then, the company has reported that it has received orders for more than 400 electric vehicles that are now operating across 61 cities in 17 countries. Another city should be added shortly: According to Solaris, a further contract has been signed within Poland – ten Urbino 12 electric buses and the associated charging infrastructure are being prepared for delivery on behalf of the Municipal Office for Roads and Public Transport in the Polish town of Radom. The order is to be processed by mid-June 2020.
