The virtual power plant is essentially software that allows you to store, optimize and manage the consumption of energy from renewable sources.
In Poland, there is a boom in renewable energy sources, primarily photovoltaics. RES sources are clean and more and more efficient, but still have some limitations. – Renewable energy is unpredictable and virtual power plants are a complementary component of energy security – explains Grzegorz Nowaczewski, founder of Virtual Power Plant.
The power plant under construction already has a temporary capacity of over 100 MW, but there are plans to increase it five times.
A virtual power plant is an information system that is supposed to prevent energy blackouts. Virtual Power Plant creates virtual power plants by installing the Enabler DSR system on hundreds of buildings equipped with forced ventilation, air conditioning and heating systems. This solution takes over the current control over building automation systems (BMS) and introduces optimal control algorithms. This allows you to save up to 30% of electricity and heat.
According to Allied Market Research analysts, the global virtual power plant market will reach revenues of $ 5.9 billion by 2027. In 2019, it was $ 1.3 billion. Poles have ambitious plans to develop a part of this market.
