PKP Intercity has applied for a grant of EUR 4.24 million (about PLN 19.5 million) from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for equipping 104 locomotives with European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) devices, the carrier said.
“The consistent rollout of ERTMS is taking railroads into the digital world. The system enables faster and safe journeys, as well as the movement of trains on railway networks of individual countries, without the need to install and know national systems. Using the funds from the CEF, we want to equip the locomotives with ERTMS 104 devices, which in the next few years will strengthen our fleet, ”said Tomasz Gontarz, member of the management board.
In the first stage, the application submitted by PKP Intercity received a positive opinion from the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy. Now the proposal is awaiting an evaluation by the European Commission. The decision of the Commission regarding the selection of projects for co-financing is planned for June this year.
