PGING has discovered a natural gas field near Poznań estimated at 650 million m3

Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo (PGNiG) discovered a natural gas field in Sierosław near Poznań estimated at 650 million m3 of nitrogen-rich natural gas, the company said.

“Domestic extraction is one of the pillars of the security of gas supplies to Polish consumers. We systematically search for new deposits and invest in the development of already identified resources in order to maintain gas production at a stable level. The effect of these activities is, among others discovery of the Sierosław field in Wielkopolska, containing approximately 650 million m3 of natural gas, ”said PGNiG president Iwona Waksmundzka-Olejniczak, quoted in the press release.

“As a consequence of the discovery of the Sierosław field, PGNiG is planning further exploration work in this area. If further deposits are discovered, their exploitation will have a beneficial effect not only on the possibility of securing gas supplies, but also on the financial condition of local governments with oil and gas resources, ”we read further.

The Sierosław field is located in the geological formations of the Red Footbridge, which have been one of the main areas of PGNiG's exploration activity in western Poland for several years. The location of the Sierosław-2H well was selected based on the analysis of the results of geophysical surveys carried out by the method of a three-dimensional seismic survey. The well was drilled from April to June 2022, after which a production test was carried out, which confirmed the profitability of exploiting the newly discovered resources, it also said.
