P4 – the operator of the Play network – has finalized the acquisition of 100% of UPC Polska’s shares from Liberty Global, the company said. The transaction amount was PLN 7 billion.
“Today, we connect the largest and most modern mobile network with the fastest fiber-optic internet and the richest TV and entertainment offer. Together, thanks to the talented and fantastic teams of Play and UPC, we will redefine convergence for the benefit of the customer, “said Play CEO Jean Marc Harion, quoted in the release.
The transaction does not require any action from the existing customers of both entities. Agreements concluded by customers with operators remain in force and do not require any annexes, underlined in the information.
Play believes that the acquisition of UPC Polska – Liberty Global’s largest company in Central and Eastern Europe in terms of revenues – opens up new opportunities in the area of convergent services dedicated to individual and business clients on the Polish market. The transaction also implements the desire to accelerate investments in fiber optic networks and contributes to the implementation of the company’s vision and ambition to invest in the most modern networks, mobile and broadband services.
UPC Polska, part of the Liberty Global group, is a provider of digital cable services: television, broadband Internet and telephony for individual and business customers. At the end of 2021, UPC Polska had 1.57 million customers with 3.35 million digital subscriptions.
