US NuScale Power to use nuclear power to transform coal plants

NuScale Power, Grupa Getka and Unimot signed a cooperation agreement aimed at joint recognition of the possibility of implementing NuScale Power’s small modular reactor (SMR) technology.

Under the cooperation agreement, NuScale will support Getka and Unimot in examining the feasibility of using NuScale’s SMR technology as a solution for modifying / modernizing existing coal-fired power plants, as well as in examining the possibilities of implementing new nuclear technologies in Poland. The analyzes will cover technical, economic, legal, regulatory, financial and organizational factors.

“NuScale is pleased with the partnership with Getka and Unimot and the potential implementation of NuScale Power in Poland. The partnership between our three companies demonstrates the versatility and value of NuScale’s SMR technology for a variety of applications. NuScale’s small modular reactors are non-emission, reliable and affordable energy solutions that can be used to modify coal-fired power plants throughout Poland, “said John Hopkins, president and CEO of NuScale Power.
