Polish wholesale fibre operator Nexera is raising equity in order to meet its network development objective to cover half a million households by 2021. In February, the operator’s share capital will exceed PLN 100 million, and the company will thus rank among the ten biggest Polish operators in terms of share capital.
Nexera was established in June 2017, as an Infracapital/Nokia vehicle, and has won several tenders under the Operational Programme Digital Poland (POPC) subsidising broadband infrastructure projects. 2018 was a year of high investments for Nexera, when it was building fibre networks simultaneously in 14 POPC areas where it won infrastructure tenders in 2017 and 2018.
Nexera aims to cover 0.5 million households, including 300,000 within the POPC programme, in 73 counties. In 2018, Nexera signed contracts on wholesale access to its network with five operators, including two of the nationwide big operators – Orange Poland and T-Mobile Poland, and three local operators. Nexera is negotiating with i-Tel and E-Punkt Systemy Informatyczne from the Swietokrzyskie region as well.
Nexera won also the tender for the delivery of links for the national educational network OSE (Operator of the Educational Network) in the regions Swiętokrzyskie, Lodz and Warmia and Mazury organized by NASK at the beginning of 2018. Nexera also signed a long-term contract for the provision of data transmission services to schools in these regions. The company is responsible for enabling the connection of local educational establishments to high-speed internet with a symmetric bandwidth of at least 100 Mbps. In 2018, the first wholesale services have already been launched and are available in over 500 educational units. This year, the operator will finalise the process of launching services for schools. In total, Nexera will serve 2,600 schools from over 70 counties with fibre-optic links.
