Counteracting climate change is a global challenge. This is a huge test of responsibility not only for each of us, but above all for governments and companies. More and more companies see the problem and decide to implement a sustainable development strategy.
More and more enterprises in Poland recognize the need to counteract climate change. One of the leaders in this sector is Żabka.
The network of popular franchise stores was the first company in our country and the first grocery chain in Central and Eastern Europe to include the ESG (Environment, Social Responsibility, Corporate Governance) strategy in its strategy.
Importantly, the company’s environmental goals have been scientifically verified and approved by the international Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative. It is a confirmation that the planned reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by the company and the commitments made by it are realistic.
Żabka is actively striving to reduce its negative impact on the environment. The company is working on reducing energy consumption, looking for low- and zero-emission energy sources, testing green technologies and encouraging consumers to make informed choices.
The goals that Żabka declared in the new Responsibility Strategy announced this year include achieving climate neutrality by 2025. Scientifically approved and verified by SBTi goals assume that by 2026 Żabka will reduce by 25 percent. total greenhouse gas emissions (in terms of SBT and and compared to 2020) and will reduce by 70%. GHG intensity in stores (in terms of SBT ).
In addition, by the end of 2026, the network will also engage its business partners to establish scientifically proven reduction targets.
The climate goals adopted by Żabka, as assessed by SBTi, are in line with the most ambitious provision of the Paris Agreement, assuming the limitation of climate warming at the level of 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to the pre-industrial era.
“At Żabka, we undertake a number of pro-ecological activities every day. We involve both our employees, franchisees and clients in these processes. We are actively working on reducing the negative impact of our activities on the natural environment. We are proud that our goals have been positively verified and approved by SBT” – emphasizes Anna Grabowska, Vice President of the Management Board for Consumer Strategies at Żabka Group.
