SMOK invests 5.3 million euro in Finnish Return Entertainment cloud gaming; opens new office

Return Entertainment, which develops cloud games, raised EUR 5.3 million in a funding round led by Bikraft Ventures. The funds raised will allow the development of the first two games. Return Entertainment plans to open a studio in Poland, and the team is expected to consist of 10 people by the end of this year.

“The Polish game dev market is one of the most active in the world. Its development is due to, among others, talented developers and designers, experienced in working on AAA titles, but also independent mobile games. We are sure that we will create a team in Poland that will work alongside the team in Helsinki on a completely new category of games, ”said Antti Sartanen, co-founder and CEO of Return Entertainment.

Return Entertainment creates games in the cloud as part of the so-called cloud gaming. It is a service that consists in running games on the producer’s servers operating within the computing cloud, which are then streamed to the player’s device.

“We invested in Return Entertainment because of the founding team, who are veterans of the Finnish game dev industry and have contributed greatly to its development. (…), ”said partner in the SMOK Ventures fund, Paul Bragiel.

Return Entertainment was founded in 2019 in Finland. Its creators are Antti Sartanen (CEO), Tuomas Paavola (CTO) and Toni Hollming (lead designer). Each of them has several years of experience in the industry and the development of, among others, mobile games, as well as VR and AR technologies.
