Decathlon builds factory for its private label bicycles in Brześć

The manufacturer of sports equipment and the chain of sports stores Decathlon, which owns 60 stores and two warehouses, will complete the construction of a bicycle factory in Brześć Kujawski at the end of the year, which will serve the Baltic countries and Eastern Europe.

Regular production will start in early 2022. Initially, it will produce bikes for children and MTBs, and in the coming months, new models will be added, so that in the future the production of bicycles of Decathlon’s own brands will be covered.

The factory will play an important role in meeting our needs in Europe, also increasing the ability to respond to the market situation – says Marcin Jaworski from the production department at Decathlon. – The factory in Brest will ultimately supply all neighboring countries. We are also analyzing the possibility of delivering bicycles to countries outside the European Union, including Ukraine and Russia – adds Jaworski. The factory will initially employ about 250 people, and after reaching full production capacity – about 600. – From June 1, in a temporary site in Toruń, test production of one model has started, aimed at checking the supply chain and testing all processes, and at the beginning In July, the first customer will have a chance to buy a “MADE IN POLAND” bike – adds Jaworski.

The construction is going according to the schedule and arrangements – says Andrzej Przesmycki, CEO of Project Management, the company responsible for management and technical supervision over the construction of the factory for RTE. – We have already completed most of the work on the high-bay warehouse with a height of over 30 m, now we are focusing on the office and production part. At the beginning of June, Early Access began, i.e. the provision of warehouse space to RTE for the assembly of racks – adds Przesmycki.

In Poland, Decathlon currently produces over 100 products of 30 private labels. It was here that 10,000 Easybreath masks were produced during the lockdown.

In order to rebuild the bicycle market after the quarantine, Decathlon has established cooperation with the Romet brand, introducing part of its range to its stores.
