Budimex has signed a memorandum with the American Bechtel Corporation on potential cooperation in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Poland, the company said. Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company are jointly preparing a project for the Polish government to build a power plant with three reactors on the Baltic Sea coast. The power plant will be based on Westinghouse AP1000 reactors.
“The potential project of a nuclear power plant will be implemented by the Budimex SA Energy and Industrial Construction Division, which has completed several dozen energy investments in Poland and Lithuania. The largest of them was the construction of a new power unit in Turów Power Plant with an electric capacity of 496 MW for the PGE Group, completed in 2021. The same Division has also completed selected sections of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline for Gaz Systems, ”the release reads.
The agreement was also signed by 11 other companies representing the potential of Polish companies. In August last year, the companies Budimex and Mostostal Kraków also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with another supplier of nuclear technologies for the energy sector:
Hyundai Engineering, it was recalled. Bechtel and Westinghouse bring practical knowledge to build a nuclear power plant in Poland. Bechtel has built or serviced over 80 reactors in the US and 150 worldwide. Bechtel is currently completing the extensions of a US nuclear power plant at the Vogtle Georgia Facility, this two-part extension also uses Westinghouse AP1000 reactors.
Budimex has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since 1995. Its strategic investor is the Spanish company Ferrovial. In 2021, it had PLN 7.91 billion in consolidated revenues.
